We could get one as the Hive if we all agree. Do we think it is really worth th money or is it too much of a toy? Can anyone find ratings/comments? I've been looking at them too for the past couple years, just not sure about it. WOuld the money be better spent to buy the materials to build our own?
I know it would only do soft materials, Maybe aluminum/brass

I'd go in on a manual lathe and mill/drill from HF or Grizzly.
I made a chess piece on a lather in high school and probably forgot all of the important parts, but I'd seriously love to learn more about it and actually have metalworking skills that don't involve a hand drill.

Either or would be great. I don't know what we have saved up from dues and whatnot, but it would be nice to slowly put some of it toward things like this.
I think Grizzly is a bit better than HF too. I know one makes it for the other but if you get into the motor specs, it's not the same machine. I'd like to get both eventually. Do you think it is possible to add steppers and a Mach 5 board? I have a fairly beefy desktop at hoe waiting to be connected to a CNC. It's just collecting dust ATM.

If we get the Harbor Freight ones, and we do it this week and save 20%, I think we'd be hard pressed to ever beat that deal.
Is the Hive collectively interested in the purchase? I'd throw in some cash if it were the difference between one machine and both. Heck, I'm thinking about getting them for myself too.

I've got a 20% coupon too.
Let's get a mini mill. $599 minus 20% plus tax is $512.74 for us to split.
Glenn and I discussed what the Hive can front, and I say we do it (PM if you're curious, it's just not something that we should post publicly). Please bring whatever amount you feel is an appropriate share of the cost. I'd suggest $40-$60, and whatever we cover above the cost will go back into the pot for the next machine.
