I stumbled upon this auction which appears to have some pretty nice vices and tooling that may go for prices that would be attractive. I thought you folks might have an interest. auction.hilcoind.com/hilco/auctionDetails/64 The Te-Co vises appear to be $400 vises, and the Kurt vises run just under $500. If only I had a machining setup!

I went a number of times when I was younger. It's a lot of fun!
If you're in the area, you're only an hour and a half from the Wisconsin Dells which is a popular tourist area. It's a fun way to spend a long weekend, especially in nice weather when you can enjoy a DUKW ride.

Have you tried it with thicker steel? I'm in the planning stage for some lawnmower blade woodworking marking knives and heating the steel that way would be far easier than setting up a torch or a forge.

A friend is working on a dust separator system and wants to build it using a 30 gallon plastic barrel. Do any of you have a source for them that's local? I suspect the removable top version would be preferable to a fixed top.

This makes the 2 HP dust collector which is reputed to be a Harbor Freight hidden gem quite a deal - it's $169.99 on sale, which should make this $127.50+tax.
Of note at Peachtree are the digital protractor, machinists squares, and the auto-switches for vacuums. The i-Socket is really handy to hook a Shopvac to when you run other devices.
On Black Friday, Rockler will have the Portamate mobile base on sale for $40. I use these on all of my larger power tools to keep them mobile, and they're excellent. They'll also be running a $40 sale on the Portamate lumber/material storage system. I'm consider buying another pair for my shop as they're handy, cheap, and about the same cost as building one yourself. There's an ad scan here: yourcatalog.dirxion.com/rockler/december/app.php?RelId=6.5.6.3.1
Woodcraft has their X-Beam Kataba saw in their Black Friday ad, and it is worth picking up if you like Japanese style saws: www.woodcraft.com/offers/blackfriday.aspx
