If you don't have plans to go to MRRF, and have the next weekend available as well, check out ND's Arduino class. It's a 2-day workshop (2 saturdays in a row) and looks pretty interesting. I know the person who's organizing the event, and he's a great guy. I hope they repeat this session later so that I can attend.
For $20 you can't buy all the components that you get to take home from the class. That is quite a deal.
Just remember that it is an Arduino clone - They sometimes have compile or FTDI issues. But as long as you are aware of that, yes it's a pretty sweet deal.

Oh, I didn't know it was a clone. So how can you tell the difference? To me it looks like an Arduino. I guess that is how I ended up with a DKElectronics motor shield that looks like an Adafruit.

Hey Glenn, can you share some more info with us about the curriculum? Would someone who's been to the Hive's class be up to speed enough to miss the first week due to MRRF and jump in to the second week's session without too much of an issue?

I think you could sure,
From what I understand the first day will be setting up and exploring the Arduino IDE and drivers. Then doing a few different "Binky LED" projects. Then I will take it from their the second Saturday. So yeah I think you could jump in pretty easy.
