ADEC takes as many entries as you want to enter. The Deadline is 12-11-15. If you are a part of the MakerHive enter "The MakerHive" as your Team Name on the application page adecinc.com/tech/#gf_11 . Your entries are just your concept in written form. NO actual inventions have to be created for submission. Teams selected for the building phase of the challenge will be notified by Monday, January 4. Then after that, you can start building if you haven't already, for the contest on 4-16-16. You can have up to 5 members per team/project, but the MakerHive can enter an unlimited amount projects...so unlimited teams can enter.
Inside information: I was a judge at the 1st ADEC Technology Challenge, and am also consulting/prototyping the 2nd Prize winner's entry. The 2nd Prize winter was a freshman in High School. He took a piece of PVC pipe, cut it down to handle size, took a piece of foam pipe insulation...cut it to size....folded it and stuck it in the PVC pipe to create the perfect resistance to hold any utensil. This allowed individuals with grip issues to be allowed to universally adapt a spoon, knife, or fork for eating.
Why did this get 2nd place?
1. Easily replicable
2. Cost effective
3. Can help masses.
4. Can be sold to masses
The 4 criteria above are strong judging items for ADEC. Helping one individual do something they could not before it important, but ADEC focuses on the masses more so in these contests.
If you have any questions please post them in the forum here and I will answer them or PM or email you.
EXTRA: In 2013 The Assistive Technology Division in ADEC collaborated with the Senior Mechanical Engineering Division of Norte Dame. Each team was free to choose any topic of Assistive Technology they wanted. All of them chose ART. The video below was the winner.
ADEC doesn't currently have this machine. This could be an entry.
