I have a stack of 5 particle board Desktops i grabbed from Maintenance before they got chucked in the wood hopper, but not before the legs and metal file cabs were destroyed. These are 5 ft wide by 30 in deep and about 1.25 in thick. Most have the cabling holes cutout already. I was originally going to take some electrical conduit (its cheap) and bend leg supports to make a tilt-able drafting / crafting table, but our vendor came and picked up the industrial conduit bender the week i decided to do it (after sitting on or warehouse floor for no less than 7 years, lol ). The desktops are in decent shape other than some of the laminate is beat up.
Some ideas i was entertaining:
-Strip and sand, carving channels with a router for artwork(router on particle board?), finishing with a clear epoxy to level and smooth. would probably paint the particle board since there is no wood grain.
-An audio/studio mixing desk that would receive audio from a headphone jack, illuminating an overlayed sheet of acrylic lit with LEDs as a visual representation of audio received, and a mounted power supply rack underneath the desktop (could probably fetch a nice sales price if done right)
-quick and easy re-laminate job
-chuck them because i'm too busy
Anybody interested? We could attempt to raise funds for oh say an internet upgrade or you could take one for personal use.
Maybe. Tops like that make nice mobile work benches, like the ones along the wall at the hive. Most of those just have raw particle board for tops. But not sure I have the room for more yet.
