Tak was a Kickstarter game in 2016-17 that far surpassed its funding goal. One interesting thing about the game is that the board and rules are open and available online. There are several sets of the pieces available to print on Thingiverse, as they can be quite simple - you could use coins or checkers too if you didn't want to print them out. I found a set that I liked and printed them in contrasting colors. To put together the gift, I printed the rules and several different boards of different sizes (4x4, 5x5 and 6x6) on heavy cardstock and laminated them with 5 mil plastic to keep them in good shape and make them sturdy. I designed and cut a box for the pieces to go in and finished it with a coat of Rust-Oleum triple thick glaze. I had this lying around the garage a while ago for an outdoor project and tried it on some wood pieces and found that it leaves a nice shiny coat that is quite durable. I've since used it on many other projects and have had good luck with it.
