What have others done w a sample of filament that is not on a spool? The push plastic samples printed great, until Ichecked on my print and had it pull off the holder and now a rats nest.

If it's got a curve in its "memory" still, I saw Phil wrap it around another spool, it seemed like that worked pretty well.
I placed an order with Ultimachine and got a sample of some 3mm. I'm all set up for 1.75, so anybody else that can use it is welcome to it. I'll bring it to our meeting next time.

I have not tried the samples yet, but was planning on laying it horizontal on table beside machine, not putting on spool holder. Maybe setting a weighted coffee can in the middle also.
thats the problem I started to print with it and it went all crazy, a loop did not unwind right and pulled the rest with it till I had a knotted ball of filament goodness.

The folding spools on thingiverse actually work pretty well! We have one of these designed that can be assembled with no hardware. Are the samples working out alright?
All you have to do is slap it on an existing spool. Takes 5 seconds. Samples work great.
yup that is what I done, before removing the zip ties I placed it on a spool and the cut the ties, started printing and walked away, came back to a rats nest tangled filament on a spool and a printer printing with no filament. So I will try again.

Keep the rats away from your printer and they won't make a nest with your Filament.
