Hey guys!
I've been involved in a group called 3 Degrees of Separation for about a year. It's a community group in SB that meets once a month to network people that are interested in entrepreneurship and talk about small businesses in the community. The mayor has come to speak at our events, local business owners, developers, city planners, people with advice for small business insurance and legal matters, people who have coworking space to share... just about anything that you would want to know.
Anyway, the Meetup that will happen on April 1st is going to be be huge. It's being hosted at Union Station (the old train station that's been converted into the huge data center, next door to Coveleski Stadium in DTSB) and I think it would be very interesting for our group to visit. 3 Deg has had 60 or 70 people at some of its larger events, and I'm predicting that the turnout will be close to a hundred at this one.
If you don't have plans on April fool's day, please consider coming out to meet some new people. Right now, the entrepreneur community in SB is not in tune with the maker community, and that's something that our group can change.

Just a reminder that the 3 Degrees meeting is this week, Tuesday the 1st.
Kevin Smith, the developer who's been turning around South Bend, will be talking about his plans for what he calls the Reniassance District in down town. He just bought a huge former Studebaker building that will become a community center.
He is part owner of General Sheet Metal, so he's a guy like us with a mechanical brain and hands on experience, and he's been buying buildings in downtown one at a time to turn them into assets for the community. For example, at Union Station where this meeting will take place, he's installed the fastest data center in our region. It's the "main line" that facilitates the internet traffic between New York and Chicago as well as most of the Midwest. We actually have better internet here than most of the country.
Kevin's name may sound familiar, because one of his friends came to a meeting we had at SeeMe in Goshen and mentioned some of the buzz around starting a Makerspace in South Bend.
The meeting was in the old train station downtown. The developer just bought an 880 thousand square foot building that will become an even more powerful data center for our region. Neat to hear about the plans for DTSB, and good networking too.
