People always tell me that Solar Power "Isn't there yet" or they try to denounce it by claiming solar panels aren't "efficient" enough. Which all may be true when speaking in terms of small scale like powering a single home. They just aren't thinking big enough.
Arnold Schwarzenegger wanted to put a single solar panel on every roof in California - paid for by the state. These panels would be tied to the grid and it was estimated that it would produce 20% to 30% of California's needed power. Meaning less coal would be needed (I'll give you one guess who blocked it). So just imagine if Highway 10 (which runs from Cal to Florida) was one huge solar panel. It would be able to supply power to all the small towns it runs through. Now imagine if every major highway in the country was a solar panel, the amount of Fossil fuel needed would be significantly reduced - THERE'S your free energy.
