Increase output of your PSU with a Load Resistor

This is like the resistor I used on my ATX PSU. Hook across the 5 volt output (red & black wire)
6 ohm 50 watt or 25 watt I tried both with same results.

Cheap Viotec 450 watt ATX PSU from SeeMeCNC
No resistor output = 11.86 volts
With resistor = 12.13 volts

With Onyx rev 5 bed heating,
no resistor =  11.03 v
1 resistor = 11.48 v
2 resitors in paralell = 11.55 v

I used 1 resistor fastened to power supply vent grid holes with M3 screws, so air blows over resitor keeping it cool.

Bed will heat from 25c to 90 c in 13 minutes.


I used the one like above link I had around from another project, but the one from Autozone or O'Reilly works also, just not as nice for mounting and does not not have nice finned aluminum case.

What did it take to heat up your bed before?

I timed mine as a "before" measurement, and I'm already at 13 minutes.

guessing, but about 20 minutes.

may not help a lot, but I figure every little bit helps. And this is a cheap easy mod.
I suspect build quality/output of these cheap power supplies vary.

Plus, on anything super cheap like that (they're only $20 power supplies) they're going to lie on the specs as much as they can get away with so that people still buy them.
