IS this www.lasersaur.com/ worth another look? Or is it overly complicated and priced ?
I fully support the effort, but the design doesn't seem very creative or resourceful to me.
On my own laser project, I'm in it for:
$300 ShapeOko $200 mirrors and lenses $60 4 steppers (more than necessary for 2 axes) $0 control board (horse trading with Scott, but $60ish normally for a sanguinololu)
I was budgeting $1k for the laser tube, and haven't priced the power supply yet. I also have to figure out the exhaust fan(s), cooling water pump(s), enclosure, etc... I was planning to use an automotive blower fan, an aquarium pump (maybe 2 in series for safety redundancy), a plywood or melamine box with fiber/concrete siding as a liner, and expanded metal as a build surface...
Anyway, I think I'm going to have a $2kish 80-100w laser table.
That fold up one sure seems cool though. I want to ask HeathenX more about his LCheapo setup too. We should build the moving parts for a community/portable cutter and put a cheap diode on it for etching and proof of concept. Then we can throw in the funds and scale up to a cutting laser.
