John Oly, Steve W., I went to a 3D cage match in Chicago this past Thursday, Dec 12th
We were a bit early when we arrived in Chicago so we went to a store called American Science and Surplus. Neat little store that sold all kinds of stuff from novelty gift gags to Science kits.
The real fun started when we arrived and the Beauty Bar. John was like a kunfu master of 3D printers and had all 3 machines set up and ready to print in record time - His lips even moved out of sync with his voice! Steve was handing out SeeMeCNC Sun glasses and screw drivers to all the guys. (I guess there was some girls too).
There was several other printers there also including a SeeMeCNC Rostock MAX, Mendel, Printer Bot and a Shapeoko! The Printer Bot won the Biggest Epic Fail as his Hot end exploded on the start line. (Actually it just melted a bit and fell out of the extrude, but exploded sounds much cooler). And there was Blood drawn at this event as well!!, the designer of the Shapeoko cut his finger fairly bad while handling the cutting bit. Blood was EVERYWHERE (all over his finger) and required several Blood compacting devices (Band-Aids) to save his life (stop the bleeding) But like a real trooper he was back into the game!
The winner of the fastest print was the 3Doodler. He actually constructed a working catapult buy hand!. 6' foot in height (or it might have been inches) it would launch jumbo marshmallows 60 feet!! (ok maybe 4 feet). He tried to destroy the good print from SeeMeCNC but Johns quick thinking saved the day by draping a SeeMeCNC T shirt over the machine.
Unfortunately one of our machines failed to stick to the build plate so we had one epic fail, the other however got the best looking print which also took the longest to finish. Steve's print turned out good also, but he cranked the speed up about halfway through the print causing buggers and strings.
I'll post more photos tonight, soon as I get them off my Camera.
