That TV show we talked about a few times is looking better and better.
I watched "The Electric Company" with my Grand Daughter - how disappointing that was. When I was a kid, The Electric Company did things like explain Electricity, Motion & Motors, Stars, and all types of science stuff. I remember them showing me how to make a 2 wheeled vehicle using two push-ups (the plastic straw and platform after eating the sherbet). They showed how to make cool paper Airplanes, Vinegar and soda volcano's and all kinds of cool things. Now all they talk about is political correctness BS and how "special" you are "just like everyone else". there was nothing scientific about the show at all. All the actors were over the top flamboyant and giddy, nothing at all how people would act in real life. It was really said. All the other "learning" shows on Sunday morning were the same way.
Later I also watched Moyers & Company, their guest was Neil deGrasse Tyson on Science Literacy. He sees the writing on the wall. The reports they had about where the USA is on learning new technology vs other countries is staggering. He talked about the turn of the century and the scientific break through we had early on and how we were always looking to the future in the 20's, 30's and 40's. Now nothing, we are almost going backwards. He talked about how our education system places too much emphasis on test scores and he challenged to round up all the very successful people, like bill Gates (who dropped out) Richard Branson, to name a few and give them the same test.
I remember reading an article years ago about a person that wanted to reform the education system by teaching all the basics, Math Science, Music, Computers and Programing, etc etc, up to 8th grade. After that students would be divided up into what they were good at and given more focused learning on those skills. Unfortunately today Science and Technology is one of the first things cut when a school has to make financial cutbacks.
As Neil deGrasse Tyson, I too can see the degradation of our own society and how the American people are slowly being controlled through lack of education.
