3D-Printed Osteoid Cast Could Speed Up Bone Healing by Nearly 40%





Deniz Karahasin’s Osteoid requires only 20 minutes per day to spead up bone healing process by nearly 40 percent. Low intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS) leads are places on the skin, right over the bone injury and left there for the required time. This design concept won the 2014 Golden A’Design Award in the 3D-Printed forms and product design category.

I have a hard time buying this one.
The ultra sound might help speed up healing but just the fact that the cast is 3D printed does not.

The 3d printed part has nothing to do with healing, now the LIPUS does, I have read a couple articles here at work on this. A big advantage of the cast is that air can get in and around. No more worry about keeping it dry.

I think the point of the 3D printed, is that is was easy and cost effective to make the one off that way
