Have you guys seen this yet? Matter Control has released a Android based device that runs Matter Control. Supposedly you can do everything including slicing! It is $300, but first (100) sold are $50 bucks off. Tempting.
Sure would be sweet to build it right into the printer and get rid of the LCD.
Perhaps an opportunity to sell an Octopi/Astroprint kit? Bundle a Raspberry Pi, camera, the screen, wifi dongle and a nice case to enclose it all, sell it for $200. Does anybody really want to do all their slicing on a tablet anyways? I currently have a tablet next to my printer logged into the OctoPi interface acting as the main control, which is pretty much all I would do with that Mattercontrol tablet.

sheeesh! gimme a break Glenn, you just don't get it do you.
by the way SeeMeCNC has some units in stock, I stooped in there this morning and Oly demoed it to me. I gotta say the LOCAL slicing (with Android) was surprisingly fast. And the re-designed MC interface looked better than the desktop version.
The Android system is custom to properly support USB direct to Rambo. So that means you don't need a RaspPi.
John says the Android app will (is?) available open source. The main drawback currently to rolling your own Matterslice+Android+tablet setup is the Android tablets USB interface.
No Brian, There is nothing there to get in my opinion. The Tablet is a step BACK from a Laptop - why spend another $300 for something that does what you already can plus more. It's a gimmick sale. It does nothing to improve, nothing to benefit. It doesn't give you better prints, It doesn't slice better, it doesn't download files faster. It's a $300 LCD screen, nothing more.
Go ahead and get one - I bet you still use your laptop, just as you do now. I'm just saying I'm not wasting my money on one.
