Does anyone use this program regularly? I'd love to see what it can and can't do. If it's really worth it, I'd buy a copy.
I'm specifically interested in its ability to apply different slicer settings to different parts of a model and I'd like to see how customizable its support feature is.

Yes, I do. I just installed v3 today and started testing again. Never used it much. I did not see any great advantage and it's methodology is enough different I did not have the time to learn it. The reason I bought it was the interactive support function. But, then I found meshmixer and use it's interactive supports when really needed. Actually that is less of a issue nowdays the auto supports work fairly well in most cases.
I will bring it Thursday so you can test and see features. So far the new version looks promising, now I need to take the time to understand it's settings and quirks. I suspect like any slicer, none works optimal for every part.

It is not helpful that they refuse to offer a trial version. To make matters worse the program is locked to your ONE pc harware you installed it on, you can not run on another machine I am not sure what you do when you upgrade your pc or your computer dies.??
They sure are super paranoid/protective of the software... I had to 'register' for a new account and entry my original product key, THEN I was given a "personalized" download file link. This whole process was rather offensive and a big hassle. I would not be surprised if the sw is periodically contacting the mother-ship in the background. hmmm, I wonder if will even run without a web connection?

Did they tell you that or did you try it ? Other than logging the MAC address I'm not sure how the software would know what computer it is on, and like you said, it's pretty bogus if they won't let you install on a new computer, or even re-install if you have to do a whipe and reinstall windows.
That's reason enough for me not to buy it.

Some things are meant to be closed. Your mind isn't one of them.

I am pretty sure your license key is generated using some hardware specific serial info on your pc. I have other commercial programs do that.
They did not say you can't get a new key if your pc crashes or you upgrade pc, I was just wondering.
edit: looks like it would not be a problem, I got this when logged into my account... Linked Devices
This page allows you to see which devices have been successfully linked to your Simplify3D account. If you ever need to move your license to a new device, you can do that by uninstalling the software from the old computer and selecting "Yes" when asked if you would like to remove your license from that machine.
In extreme circumstances such as a hard drive failure or a stolen computer, the "Reset Device" button can be used to forcefully unlink a specific device. Only use this option in extreme circumstances!
