There's some work to be done still. I think I'm overextruding a bit, and the retraction distance isn't quite far enough, but those prints are all with out of the box settings. 

I haven't tried scanning again yet, but I did do an engraving last night. It's a little well-done, but I bet it would look great if I dialed it down a touch. Notice that the lines through the engraving are actually the wood-grain and not the raster lines.

Looks good, I think you are printing way too hot for PLA. That's what all the strings are from.

It's 215 without changing any settings. Temp and fans are the first thing on the list to mess with. 

I do hear the extruder skip from time to time, so it'll be interesting to see what happens if I lower the temp.

Out of the box, not bad. I am also sure their software updates will change the out of the box settings as well.
