I've got a cheap benchtop drill press that I picked up at a pawn shop for $45 several years ago. I took the rust off of it, and I'm tuning it up so that it's nice to use again, and the chuck wobbles drill bits a little bit (about 1mm back and forth on a long bit). I've tried several drill bits to make sure that I'm not seeing the runout in a single bad bit, and I'm confident that the issue is the chuck and/or arbor itself. I can take the chuck off of its taper just fine, and that looks pretty clean, so I'm trying to take it apart a little further to figure out what I need to replace to get it to run true again.
The chuck itself is a taper fit, and I think that the taper is removable, but I can't figure out how it comes apart. There isn't a slot in the column for a removal wedge. Does this look familiar to anybody? Do I need to remove the iron collar with a spanner wrench, or might there be a draw bar that I have to take apart up top?

I re-seated the chuck a few times and still had a wobble... What I think I should do next is to put a chalk mark on the chuck where it wobbles, pop it off, turn it 180, and tap it back on to try it again. Then I'll know if it's the chuck or the arbor by whether the problem moves or not.

I marked the chuck, took it off and turned it 180 without removing the drill bit, and the wobble was on the mark still. I found a new JT33 chuck on Amazon (South Bend Lathe brand, for whatever that's still worth) and I'll have it later in the week!
