Seems overkill on functions, but hey what do I know.
I would be willing to buy one of these for "research" ...developing a better smoother 3D print! 40 bucks is not terrible if it gives us good data on what head is really doing. It would be really interesting to plot the delta movements to see how close the math is calculating the commanded gcode movements. very interesting indeed.

hmmm, reading up on these here www.sparkfun.com/pages/accel_gyro_guide some of them have 'tap' sensing, it occurred to me that it may be able to be used for bed leveling/zeroing by sensing when nozzle taps the print surface, no?
The one I have is just an Accelerator, no Gyro - but It would give us something to play with before spending the money for a IMU. We can see if Dan would write a program to show the data graphically. You know you can check the bed level without actually touching the glass right? But yes it could detect when if the the movement comes to an abrupt stop.
Some things are meant to be closed. Your mind isn't one of them.

First pictures of the pre-production prototype. It looks to be higher quality than I was expecting. Delivery is delayed, but it sounds like they are deep enough into it that their updated timeline will be semi-accurate.
