Software recommendation for preview/thumbnail of STL files?

Has anybody played around with programs that preview STL files or show thumbnails of files in Windows explorer?

It looks like there're are a few things out there, but I hate to go installing mystery software without hearing about others' experiences first...

Not sure about Windows, but for the Mac users out there, Pleasant3D does what you're looking for.

Jim, you just installed netfabb the other night, does your file browser preview .stl's because of .stl file association with netfabb?
the thread you linked seems to say it does for some?
mine does not
but it is win Vista

No, I see a red and blue checkerboard looking thumbnail on STL files sinc einstalling NetFabb... I am running Windows 8.1 like they said, but I wonder if the guys in the thread are talking about one of the paid NetFabb softwares?

Jim, I have been hunting also and have not found anything yet.

I did download and try " 3D-Tool" www.3d-tool.com/en_free-viewer-download.htm
Nice powerful program for anal-izing .stl files. I like it! staying on my system. ...does not provide stl thumbnails in win file explorer though.

that MS app is only for win 8.1 ..SOME of us still use older windoze.

Well STL does sound like an STD

btw, Netfab has a smart phone app that alows you to download and look at STL files.

The windows app does not do a thumbnail preview icon either.
