I thought it was kind of cool the South Bend makerspace had a store. Is this something that might be in the works for the new location? It might be a more friendly setting for people who are on the fence about attending, allow us to take requested projects, encourage membership, and provide some extra funding to boot. We would all need to sit down and discuss policies of course but it seems like there is a lot of potential with the group we have.

Cool Tool, but yikes on the price. you could do the same with an iphone pic and run a bitmap trace in inkscape, then export to DXF. you would just need to verify your relational measurements and clean it up before export.

It's been many years since i looked into the Tesla version of this, but it seems like his wireless lights were simply tuned resonant inductors on 2 ends of a fluorescent bulb. My understanding was his entire lab was bathed in high voltage DC fields he was able to harness the power anywhere needed. I could be completely wrong of course, subject to interpreting an author's already second hand interpretation.
Not sure what difference or impact DC would make except he was always claiming it was much safer and supposedly went head to head with Edison frequently over it. His atmospheric technology actually did work too(but you can't make money on free power...)- harnessed in projects like HAARP and supposedly Russia's "standing wave" weapon.

I finished my Calvin and Hobbes lightbox (testing and practice for things to come) this weekend and i thought i would share. These types of projects are not uncommon but i learned a few critical things, for example when exporting from inkscape and importing to RD cam for the laser cutter, accurate measurements are no longer accurate and will change.

I have a stack of 5 particle board Desktops i grabbed from Maintenance before they got chucked in the wood hopper, but not before the legs and metal file cabs were destroyed. These are 5 ft wide by 30 in deep and about 1.25 in thick. Most have the cabling holes cutout already. I was originally going to take some electrical conduit (its cheap) and bend leg supports to make a tilt-able drafting / crafting table, but our vendor came and picked up the industrial conduit bender the week i decided to do it (after sitting on or warehouse floor for no less than 7 years, lol ). The desktops are in decent shape other than some of the laminate is beat up.
Some ideas i was entertaining:
-Strip and sand, carving channels with a router for artwork(router on particle board?), finishing with a clear epoxy to level and smooth. would probably paint the particle board since there is no wood grain.
-An audio/studio mixing desk that would receive audio from a headphone jack, illuminating an overlayed sheet of acrylic lit with LEDs as a visual representation of audio received, and a mounted power supply rack underneath the desktop (could probably fetch a nice sales price if done right)
-quick and easy re-laminate job
-chuck them because i'm too busy
